Senior Portrait made with 8×10 Camera on black and white sheet film

I made this portrait in Darien, Connecticut a few years ago. The family commissioned a senior portrait of their daughter. We started with the color and digital format “casual” smiling images but I usually use that time to break the ice a little and develop a creative dialogue. This image captured that point of transition from childhood into young adulthood very well. She is serious but also has very kind, childlike eyes.  I like how her hair and the wool wrap she chose blend. I’m happy with the result. The family (including the daughter) was very satisfied.

The technical details are as follows:

Deardorff 8×10 camera with a 300mm Heliar Lens. Shot on Ilford HP5 8×10 sheet film. Available light/open shade.

Final image printed in platinum.
